Cleaning and Maintaining Your Wall Mount Fan

When hot weather arrived, you did your research and came to the conclusion that a wall mount fan was the best option. It helps to cool off your home and works well with the interior of your home. Other fans would help cool it off, but they were always in the way. However, dust has collected and you must now clean your fan and are wondering the best way to get it done.

Many people often think that cleaning and maintaining wall mount fans is a lot more difficult than other fans. This is not true. They are just as easy to clean as a standing fan or window fan. You do, however, want to make sure you do clean them often to make sure they stay quiet and do not make any vibrating noises.

The first thing you will need to do to clean the fan is unplug the fan before you dismount it from the wall. Make certain you take caution and stand on something sturdy to do this. Once the fan has been dismounted, you will need to set it on a flat surface. To clean the fan, you will need to have ready a screwdriver with a flat head, a soft cloth that has been dampened, and a very mild detergent.

Tabs are placed at intervals around the grill to hold the two together. Remove these by using the screwdriver. Be careful not to break the tabs. Working in a clockwise position, remove all of the tabs and separate the two grills. Once they have separated, you can start cleaning the one that is unattached from the motor.

Cleaning the grills is a simple matter of wiping them down with the damp cloth, using the detergent on any stubborn dirt. When the unattached grill has been cleaned, set it aside and be prepared to start cleaning the other grill. Wipe with evening strokes to remove the dirt. Dust that has collected can also be vacuumed from the grill.

When cleaning the blades, be very careful that you do not touch the motor of the fan. Again, use the damp cloth and detergent to clean the blades carefully. When you have finished cleaning all parts of the fan, you can then wipe them dry before you start to reassemble.

Maintaining your fan by regular cleanings will help you to extend the life of your investment. Even though the price may have been minimal to cool your house, you don’t need to spend more because your fan bit the dust too early. Dust and vacuum the outside of your fan during your regular cleaning regimen and your fan will last for many years.

Keep in mind that these are just the basic instructions for cleaning wall mount fans. Whether you have a Lasko wall mount fan or an Air King wall mount fan, you will always want to read the instructions for cleaning the model you have. Each fan style is different. Some fans will allow you to just remove the grill and blades for the wall, while others will require removal of the whole fan. Protect your fan and yourself by always following the provided instructions.
